鹿 be free (Deer, be free)
鹿 be free (Deer, be free)
by 尚雯婕 Laure Shang
See the green grass, wearing white snow
Listen to the music of forest
Suddenly discovering an unfamiliar world
The lake in the sky, the blue colored fog
This journey, take a step forward
Deep within the dense fog
Every sound of a heart beat
Every second of a breath
To find what makes you proud
See the beauty of a flower blooming
Fireflies brightly burning
Fly forward, pass through the clouds
See the sky full of dazzling starlight
Sprint forward, no matter how small
To be free and unafraid
Be free and unafraid
The wind gently kissing the horizon
Sunlight dancing with the butterflies
Every tomorrow is an adventure
The lake in the sky, the blue colored fog
This road is beautiful and clear
From sunset to sunrise
I turn my head back to look
The waves underneath the moonlight
Wandering to a distant place
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
(Pretty sure it's saying 'run/journey forth, no matter how small [one is]', but it sounds weird to me if I say 'how small you are' because it kind of sounds like a physical descriptor.)
冒险
(The most direct/common translation is actually 'risk' but I mean, 'risk' is close enough synonyms to 'take a chance' right? And 'take a chance' is close enough synonym to 'adventure'...at least Thesaurus dot com says so)
(Wasn't sure if it was saying the road was beautiful and clear, or if it's clear how beautiful it is.)
眺望
(It means to view or look at something afar, there's a sense of distance to the phrase but I didn't want the translation to get too long so I left it out. 'I turn my head back to gaze into the distance'?)
More songs that were covered in 声入人心 Super-Vocal!! Again...probably won't be the last. Also, I took some general liberties overall with connecting some of the lyrics rather than translating them separately just because I liked how they sounded or flowed.
The italicized lyrics are actual English lyrics in the song. Fun fact: it really wasn't until I translated this song that I was like.......hang on a minute.....is the title a pun?!

Thanks for the translation! Do you know what context this song was sung / composed in? It has a feel of liberation and freedom but seems pretty random without understanding more :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks for commenting :) I looked up the Baidu entry for the song and it turns out it was made for a movie called 'Fantastica: A Boonie Bears Adventure'. I've never watched the movie myself but apparently a magical deer appears in it and that's the inspiration for the song. I'm guessing the vibe is fantasy/adventure? Hope this helps!
