You know when you think you're improving and slowly getting the hang of this and then all of a sudden something comes up and you realize that you know nothing. This song is that for me.

我曾将青春翻涌成她
(I'm not even sure what this means literally but I think it's 'I used to turn my youth into her'?? What does that even mean? I don't know. I made up the translation. One line into this song and I've already given up.)
也曾指尖弹出盛夏
(Second line of the song and more giving up. It's 'fingertips playing/tapping out midsummer'. That's the literal translation. I added 'the sound' because the verb they use '弹出' implies playing a tune on an instrument and I took out 'midsummer' because it sounded more awkward even though the original lyricist probably meant to invoke something like halcyon days because the word for midsummer in Chinese, '盛夏' is made up of the characters for 'prosperous/flourishing' and 'summer'. Or not. Who knows, not me!!!)
竟有些犹豫
(So I wasn't sure what 竟 meant in this context so I looked it up and it turns out there's about ten different meanings that all make varying degrees of sense in context. So I just picked one I liked. Yes, this is the level of quality to expect out of this translation.)
近乡情怯
(SO. 近 means 'close'. 乡 means 'hometown'. 情 means 'feelings'. 怯 means 'cowardly'. Now, 乡情 together also means affection for your hometown, e.g. nostalgia. What all this means is that this phrase could mean 'nervous feelings from being close to your hometown' or 'close to your hometown feeling both nostalgic and anxious'. Basically just, feelings. About your home. Close enough.)
风吹起了从前
(Either means once upon a time the wind blows/rises, or the wind blows and with it the past rises. I picked...whatever sounded nicer.)
万般
(I looked up 万般 and it means 'all different kinds' as a noun and 'extremely, utterly' as a verb and like, am I the only one who thinks maybe one word should have similar meanings?)
措不及防闯入你的笑颜
(Separately, each character/phrase says: making plans, inferior to, defense, intrude, your, smile. This the worst game of Scrabble. Making inferior plans to defend against the intrusion of your smile? I honestly put this in Google translate and it said 'can't take care of your smile'. While I have no idea how they arrived at that, it sounds okay but doesn't really match up with the lyric above it. So I made an undead, Frankenstein translation that mashed the two together.)

(At this point I'm just totally relying on Google here because while I still don't know how they're getting to their translations, at least it gets the general idea across because left up to me, the sentence would be 'It used to be hard for me to free myself because this world is big'.)
不知抚摸的是故事 还是段心情
(This sentence would be fine if it didn't randomly have 抚摸 in the middle, which means to caress or stroke something. 'Not knowing if what I'm caressing is a story or a mood'?? The real mood is ignoring it because you don't know anything anymore.)

tl;dr I just...straight up made up this entire translation okay. I had no idea what any of this says. The feeling when you look up words and half of them are tagged as 'literary'. I feel bad. Listen, it's a great song. Maybe just idk, use the translation for the original Japanese lyrics instead.
