The Night

The Night
by 毛方圆 Francis Mao
from <<花千骨 Journey of Flower>> Soundtrack

The frigid wind blows on the edge of clear skies
Tears wet my collar as I whip my horse on
The tender sentiments of heroes is what breaks the young maidens
Flowers bloom and flowers wither, year after year

It's difficult to continue the fate from a previous life in this one
But I envy content couples more than heavenly immortals
From dawn to dusk this kind of longing
It always makes my face wet with tears

Your eyes
Your tears
In the blink of an eye the recollections easily come
The jade zither, the bamboo flute, peach blossoms, mountain streams
Together with my lord listening to the sound of horses neighing

A sorrowful parting
A sorrowful parting
The luminous moon shines brightly upon this moment
This mortal world is but a joke
The beautiful springtime easily wither away
But to see my lord is so difficult

Notes:
是夜 - lit. is night
寒风萧瑟青云边 - lit. the cold wind blows against the edge of clear skies (Does this song not have official lyrics yet because this first line has like three different versions. There's 几人别 as in how many people haven't felt this cold wind, and there's 情缘别 which is the cold wind blows apart fated feelings, or something like it.)
扬鞭 - lit. raise the whip, as in raise the whip to urge the horse on
鸳鸯 - lit. mandarin ducks, very famous for being in pairs so they're frequently used a symbol for blissful couples
(Oh boy. Okay so 嘶鸣 means the sound of neighing, like whinnying. 耳 literally means ear and 鬓 means temples or the hair at the temples. So it could mean the sound of horses in their ears. But there's a saying 耳鬓嘶摩 in which 耳鬓 instead indicates heads close together, as in temples and ears touching kind of thing and 嘶 = mutual so it means 'a close relationship'. So I'm guessing the overall image is this beautiful scenery and music, and in it this pair are very close and intimate and may or may not be listening to actual horses. *Sigh* Metaphors.)
